MEET THE TEAM
Ross Dobson MEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE
Chartered Structural Engineer, Director
Ross studied Civil Engineering at Northumbria University, Newcastle, graduating with a First-Class Honours degree. He was awarded Best Student in Civil Engineering and Best Student Thesis, having also excelled in national design competitions—placing second nationally for a timber car park design.
During his studies, he gained industry experience with Mott MacDonald in the transport sector and began working at a structural engineering consultancy in 2018. Progressing rapidly from student engineer to Chartered Structural Engineer by 2022, he achieved chartership at just 26. He also served as Chair of the IStructE Northern Counties Young Members Group, supporting the next generation of engineers.
Ross has worked on projects ranging from structural art installations to high-rise office and apartment blocks valued at over £10 million. Since launching Dobson Structures in January 2023, he has collaborated with architects, builders, and homeowners on residential and commercial projects, including extensions, new-build developments, and historic building surveys across the UK and France.
Katy Dobson BA
Business Manager, Associate
Katy graduated with a First-Class Honours in Primary Education from the University of Sunderland in 2016. After three years of teaching in an ‘Outstanding’ school, she transitioned to Supply Chain Management with a major automotive manufacturer in the North East.
Managing operations across Europe, she progressed from overseeing a Spanish region to leading Central and Eastern Europe, spanning Germany to Bulgaria. Her role involved tracking KPIs, financial and operational analysis, and managing contracts worth up to €20 million, working closely with teams across the continent.
With the launch of Dobson Structures in 2023, Katy developed the website, marketing, social media, business strategy, and financial forecasting to establish the business in both the UK and France. She continues to refine her French for expansion, assists with photography and floor plans during site visits, and is also developing her own career as an Agent Commercial and Event Coordinator.
